Changes to CAS hours for rising juniors

Changes to CAS hours for rising juniors

As of this spring, the IBO (the parent organization that oversees all IB diploma programs around the world) announced that students can only begin CAS activities once they officially begin classes in junior year, and continue until the spring of senior year. This is a change from previous years, when rising juniors could “jump start” CAS by doing up to 15 hours over the summer prior to junior year. Bottom line… rising juniors can begin thinking of ideas for CAS activities over this summer, then begin pursuing them on the first day of classes, onwards.  Note that CAS hours can still be accumulated during the summer between junior and senior years.

If you have any questions about this change, or about CAS in general, check out our web resource or contact the DMHS IB CAS coordinator, Mrs. Sarah Anderson.
