Save Palomino Library
Palomino Library may be closed PERMANENTLY in response to the current budget situation. This “solution” to the City’s financial issues would close the most efficient and cost-effective branch of the Scottsdale Public Library system. Please take 30 seconds to email the City Council about this very important issue. Every email is counted (sample provided below).
Reasons why Palomino needs your support:
1. If Palomino becomes a high school library, it will close between 2:30 and 3 p.m. and would allow no access for the public, including elementary and middle school students.
2. Palomino is the smallest library but it is the third most-used library of the five Scottsdale libraries.
3. Palomino is the most cost-effective library being operated by the city today. SUSD contributes significantly towards Palomino’s total operational expenses.
4. Palomino was designed as a dual-function public/high school library. Shared-use facilities are a positive budget solution, demonstrating fiscal and environmental efficiency.
5. With the advent of ebooks and other digitized media, large buildings with multitudes of books and traditional print media are not necessarily the library of the future. Small libraries like Palomino, which operate on a more efficient and wired scale, are more in sync with the future.
6. Neighborhoods around Palomino are being unfairly targeted for cuts.
